The Hod King by Josiah Bancroft

THE THIRD NOVEL IN THE HIGHLY ACCLAIMED BOOKS OF BABEL SERIES, SET IN A LABYRINTHINE WORLD OF MENACE AND WONDER. 'It is not merely a 5* book, it's a masterpiece' Mark Lawrence 'A vibrant, wholly original, and expertly crafted novel that transcends genre fantasy. It is an instant literary classic' Fantasy Book Review Thomas Senlin and his crew have been separated following the orders of the mysterious Sphinx. Meanwhile, the enslaved hods climb the Black Trail and whisper secrets in the dark. As Senlin and his crew are dragged ever further into the Tower's conspiracies, everything falls to one question: who is the Hod King? Praise for the series: 'Josiah Bancroft is a magician. His books are that rare alchemy: gracefully written, deliriously imaginative, action-packed, warm, witty and thought-provoking' Madeline Miller, author of Circe 'I'm wildly in love with this book' - Pierce Brown, author of Red Rising 'Brilliant' - Publishers Weekly 'I loved it' - Django Wexler, author of The Thousand Names 'A universe of stars out of five' Superstar Drifter 'These books are absolutely incredible' - The Quill to Live 'Spectacular . . . fabulously gripping' - BookBag 'An impressive display of imagination and humour' - SciFiNow 'An engrossing, intoxicating delight' - Forbidden Planet

It is not merely a 5* book, it's a masterpiece . . . readers will be talking about these books long after much of what currently keeps them company on the shelves is forgotten . . . I was thrilled by the story, wildly jealous of the writing, and am now very keen to read the final book -- Mark Lawrence
The Hod King is a vibrant, wholly original, and expertly crafted novel that transcends genre fantasy. It is an instant literary classic -- FANTASY BOOK REVIEW
Just as phenomenally written as its two predecessors . . . this one gets 6/5 stars, because 5 stars are not enough for the amount that I loved it. A universe of stars out of five! -- SUPERSTAR DRIFTER
Spectacular . . . Once again Josiah has produced something that belongs in the very top echelons of the fantasy genre -- FANTASY HIVE
Like its predecessor it is a brilliant piece of work . . . these two books are genius. I just love them. The story, characters and imagination shine -- Mark Lawrence on ARM OF THE SPHINX
An extraordinary debut that is well worthy of the hype. A beautifully written, highly engaging page-turning masterpiece -- FANTASY BOOK REVIEW on SENLIN ASCENDS
Senlin Ascends crosses the everyday strangeness and lyrical prose of Borges and Gogol with all the action and adventure of high fantasy. I loved it, and grabbed the next one as soon as I turned the last page -- Django Wexler on SENLIN ASCENDS
Brilliant debut fantasy . . . this novel goes off like a firework and suggests even greater things in the author's future -- PUBLISHERS WEEKLY on SENLIN ASCENDS
It's rare to find a modern book that feels like a timeless classic. I'm wildly in love with this book -- Pierce Brown, on SENLIN ASCENDS
An impressive display of imagination and humour . . . we have no reservations about recommending it -- SCIFINOW on SENLIN ASCENDS
Deeply compelling . . . A classic in the making -- B&N SCI-FI AND FANTASY BLOG
A brilliant third instalment in Josiah Bancroft's inspired Books of Babel quartet -- FANTASY HIVE
The Books of Babel are something you hope to see perhaps once a decade - future classics, which may be remembered long after the series concludes. Only a few days into 2019, I think we've already found a contender for 'fantasy book of the year' -- LA TIMES
Josiah Bancroft is the author of five novels, a collection of short fiction, and numerous poems. His books have been translated into eight languages. Before settling down to write fantasy full time, he was a college instructor, rock musician and aspiring comic book artist. When he's not writing, he enjoys strumming a variety of stringed instruments, drawing with a growing cache of imperfect pens, and cooking without a recipe. He lives in Philadelphia with his wife, Sharon, their daughter, Maddie, and their two rabbits, Mabel and Chaplin.
