The Hours by Michael Cunningham
This is the story of Samuel, a famous poet whose life has been shadowed by his talented and troubled mother. It is also the story of his lifelong friend Clarissa, who strives to forge a balanced and rewarding life in spite of the demands of friends, lovers and family.
Michael Cunningham was raised in Los Angeles and now lives in New York. His first novel A Home at the End of the World was published in 1990, and his second Flesh and Blood in 1995. His work has been published in the New Yorker and Best American Short Stories 1989.
