The Householder by Gerard Woodward
The materials of these poems - milk, potatoes, dogs, coats and bathrooms - are those of ordinary, old-fashioned domesticity, but the poet transforms them into profound symbols of ownership and loss.Gerard Woodward is the author of several books, including Nourishment and the August trilogy, which includes August (shortlisted for the 2001 Whitbread First Novel Award), I'll Go to Bed at Noon (shortlisted for the 2004 Man Booker Prize), and A Curious World (shortlisted for the 2004 Man Booker Prize). Before turning to fiction, he was born in London in 1961 and wrote numerous prize-winning collections of poetry. We Were Pedestrians, his poetry collection, was a finalist for the T.S. Eliot Prize in 2005.
