How Design Makes the World by Scott Berkun

Everything we use, from social media, to our homes, to our highways, was designed by someone. But how did they decide on what was good for the rest of us? What did they get right and where have they let us down? And what can we learn from the way these experts think that can help us in how we make decisions in our own lives?

In How Design Makes The World, bestselling author and designer Scott Berkun takes readers on a journey exploring how designers of all kinds, from software engineers, to urban planners, have succeeded and failed us. By examining daily experiences like going to work, shopping for food, or even just using social media on their phones, readers will learn to see the world in a new and powerful way. They'll ask better questions of the things they buy, use, and make, and discover how easy it is to use ideas from great designers to improve their everyday lives.

From 1994 through 2003, Scott Berkun worked at Microsoft as a manager on projects such as Internet Explorer versions 1 through 5 (not 6). Making Things Happen, The Myths of Creativity, and Confessions of a Public Speaker are his three best-selling books. He is a full-time writer and speaker whose work has appeared in publications such as The New York Times, Forbes, The Economist, The Washington Post, Wired, National Public Radio, and others. He writes for Harvard Business and BusinessWeek on a regular basis, has taught creative thinking at the University of Washington, and has been on MSNBC and CNBC as an innovation and management expert. On his surprisingly popular blog, scottberkun.com, he writes frequently about innovation and creative thinking, and he tweets as @berkun.

His life's objective is to fill the bookshelf over his writing workstation with books he has written. He would have chosen a smaller shelf if he had been clever. He is located in Seattle, Washington, but travels extensively across the world to lecture about creativity and other issues on which he has written.
