MARTIN L. DAVIES studied Modern Languages at St. John's College, Oxford, and is currently Reader in History at the University of Leicester, UK. He has also held Research Fellowships at the Centre for Advanced Judaic Studies at the University of Pennsylvania and at the Moses Mendelssohn Centre for European-Jewish Studies at the University of Potsdam.
