The author carries the theme of homeostatis throughout each chapter.Dr. Lauralee Sherwood joined the faculty of West Virginia University in 1966 after graduating from Michigan State University. She is currently a Professor in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, School of Medicine. Professor Sherwood has been teaching physiology courses to pharmacy, medical technology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, nursing, medical, dentistry, dental hygiene, nutrition, exercise physiology, and athletic training majors for more than 40 years. She has written three physiology textbooks for Cengage Learning/Brooks/Cole: HUMAN PHYSIOLOGY: FROM CELLS TO SYSTEMS, FUNDAMENTALS OF HUMAN PHYSIOLOGY, and ANIMAL PHYSIOLOGY: FROM GENES TO ORGANISMS. Dr. Sherwood has won multiple teaching accolades, including the Amoco Foundation Distinguished Teacher Award, the Golden Key National Honor Society Outstanding Faculty Award, two entries in Who's Who Among America's Teachers, and the Dean's Award of Excellence in Teaching.
