I Love My Name by Linda Grant
Second grader Tahirih has always loved her name. But when she hears some friends laughing about it and pronouncing it in funny ways, her feelings are hurt and she is filled with self-doubt. With the help of her teacher, she learns about the life of the heroic woman after whom she is named, and realizes she has a choice to make. She can worry about what others think, or she can be brave like her namesake. Join Tahirih as she learns a little history and discovers a lot of courage and strength.
Linda Ahdieh Grant has a BA in Anthropology from Haverford College and a PhD in Epidemiology from Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. Writing children's stories combines some of her favorite things - the spirit of children, books, research, and the history of the Bah' Faith. She lives in Decatur, Georgia with her husband and two children and nearby her parents, all of whom inspired this story. Anna Myers has a BA in Drawing, Painting, and Printmaking from Bard College at Simon's Rock, and an MFA in Illustration from Western Connecticut State University. She hopes to show her child and the children who read her books that there is unity in diversity and that embracing cultural differences can lead to finding peace on an individual and global scale. She lives with her family in Queens, New York.
