An investigation of the ideal personality criteria of Chinese political leaders, showing that it is a combination of Confucian, Daoist and legalist values and ethics. Xuezhi Guo identifies five characteristics of an ideal political leader and traces the evolution of these characteristics.
XUEZHI GUO is Associate Professor of Political Science and East Asian Studies at Guilford College. His current research involves Chinese political thought and Chinese elite politics. His most recent articles appear in The China Journal, and Academic Forum.
