A century ago the dominant philosophical outlook was not some form of materialism or naturalism, but idealism. However, this way of thinking about reality fell out of favour in the Anglo-American analytic tradition as well as the Continental schools of the twentieth century.N. N. Trakakis is Senior Lecturer in Philosophy at the Australian Catholic University. He is the author of The God Beyond Belief (2007) and The End of Philosophy of Religion (2008). He is also the editor of The Problem of Evil: Eight Views in Dialogue (2018) and coeditor, with Graham Oppy, of the five-volume History of Western Philosophy of Religion (2009) and the four-volume Interreligious Philosophical Dialogues (2018).
