In Her Shoes by Erin Darcy

Written, illustrated and compiled by Erin Darcy, In Her Shoes began as a grassroots art project online and quickly grew into a national conversation ahead of the 2018 referendum to repeal the Eighth Amendment of the Irish Constitution that banned abortion. In Her Shoes is the story of a changing social landscape, of an uprising within the author and within Ireland.

Erin Darcy is a painter, writer, photographer, mother and activist. Through her work and wide interests – home birth, breastfeeding advocacy, improving maternity services, birth work, autonomy in pregnancy and childbirth – she supports women in their times of greatest need. As an activist for women’s rights, Erin created the Facebook art project, In Her Shoes: Women of the Eighth that became the largest grassroots campaign in Repealing the 8th Amendment in Ireland in 2018. Originally from Oklahoma, Erin has been calling Ireland her home for the last 12 years and currently resides in Loughrea, Co. Galway.
