Every recipe included in her cookbook, both old friends and new discoveries, reflects her memory of and continuing search for good flavor.

Edna Lewis was born in Freetown, Virginia, in a hamlet created by her grandfather and his associates soon after they were freed from slavery. The Taste of Rural Cooking is her first book.
