Mahmoud Darwish was born near Palestine's Western Galilee, in the village of al-Birweh. He authored almost twenty collections of poetry and ten collections of prose. Fady Joudah is a physician, poet, and translator who has received numerous accolades for both his poetry and his political engagement. He was a finalist for the 2008 PEN Prize for Poetry in Translation for his translation of Mahmoud Darwish's The Butterfly's Burden.
