Indian Philosophy by S Radhakrishnan
S. Radhakrishnan's critical survey traces the history of Indian philosophy from the Rigveda to the theism of Ramanuja, showing both its continuous development and interpreting individual philosophers in the light of this thesis of a single philosophical stream. Volume 1 contains a general introduction to Indian philosophy and covers the period from the Rigveda to Buddhism, including the Upanisads and the theism of the Bhagvad Gita. Volume 2 covers the six Brahmanical systems.Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan (1888-1975) was an Indian philosopher and statesman who served as India's first Vice President (1952-1962) and second President (1962-1967). Dr. Radhakrishnan received a knighthood in 1931, the Bharat Ratna in 1954, and honorary membership in the British Royal Order of Merit in 1963, making him one of India's most illustrious twentieth-century comparative religion and philosophy experts. Teachers, according to Dr. Radhakrishnan, should be the brightest minds in the country. On September 5, his birthday has been observed in India as Teachers Day since 1962.
