Informal Justice by Roger Matthews
Informal forms of justice such as mediation have been greeted enthusiastically as progress from the punishment model of justice -- and criticised as broadening rather than narrowing the reach of the criminal justice system. Here the contributors assess the evidence and re-appraise the theory of informalism.
`The book′s strength is an intellectual stock-taking of the expectations of informal justice and of its relationship to the existing forms of power and legality, and for that enterprise it is to be strongly recommended′ - British Society of Criminology Newsletter
Roger Matthews is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology and a member of the Centre for Criminology at Middlesex Polytechnic. He is co-editor (with Jock Young) of Confronting Crime (SAGE 1986) and editor of Informal Justice (SAGE 1988).
