Many words in French are nearly the same as their English counterparts, For example, English words ending in 'ary' (ordinary) usually end in 'aire' in French (ordinaire). This book teaches 23 word-ending patterns between English and French and gives 4,000 vocabulary words that follow them. It also includes an audio CD that teaches pronunciation.

Tom Means is an associate professor of Modern Languages at the City University of New York's Borough of Manhattan Community College. He holds a Ph.D. in foreign language acquisition and teaching. He holds a Ph.D. in Italian and Second Language Acquisition from Rutgers University and has authored numerous articles in the subject of foreign language instruction. He is trilingual (English, Italian, and Spanish) and speaks French and German fluently. His research and practice focuses on the best ways to acquire and keep languages, particularly the use of technology in language learning and teaching.

He's the creator of the Quick Vocabulary Builder series, which includes books for learning Italian, French, Spanish, Brazilian-Portuguese, and English. Tom taught at Rutgers, Montclair State University, New York University, and Marlboro College in Vermont before coming to CUNY. He splits his time between New York City and New Jersey.
