He is the author of Leadership: Theory and Practice (9th ed.) and Introduction to Leadership: Concepts and Practice (5th ed.) as well as co-author of Health Communication: Strategies for Health Professionals (3rd ed.). He has also published in professional journals. Models of leadership, leadership assessment, ethical leadership, and leadership and group dynamics are among his scholarly and curricular interests. He's worked as a consultant in a number of fields, including leadership development, leadership education, conflict resolution, and health communication. He graduated from Michigan State University with a master's and bachelor's degree in communication education and a doctorate in voice communication from the University of Colorado.
