P.G.O'Neill, a native Londoner, is Professor of Japanese at the University of London's School of Oriental and African Studies, where he also earned his Ph.D. with a thesis on traditional Japanese play in 1957. Japanese Names, A Guide to No, Early No Drama, and An Introduction to Written Japanese (co-authored with S. A Programmed Introduction to Literary-Style Japanese (Yanada), and A Programmed Introduction to Literary-Style Japanese (Yanada).
