Roy Follows joined the Malay Police Force in May 1952, at the height of the emergency - the ten year campaign against terrorists of the Malayan Communist Party. He was 22 years old with no experience whatsoever of warfare or the jungle. Undeterred by his lack of preparation and keen for adventure, he undertook a first posting to the heart of the Malaysian jungle in search of terrorists.
