Kate Waters: Up My Street by Kate Waters
In her striking paintings, Kate Waters captures transient everyday moments. Photographs taken on her travels serve as the basis for her painting, as do current events. Watersʼ work is situated within the duality between belonging and otherness, structure and fluidity, painterly surface and photographic presentation. Up My Street is the first comprehensive monograph of the artistʼs work. It features a selection of pieces from the past fifteen years. Large-scale reproductions and views from the artistʼs studio, as well as personal notes, allow the viewer a glimpse into Watersʼ large range of influences and provide an insight into her visual language and multifaceted creative process.
Text in English and German.
Kate Waters (*1964) is a Canadian painter who has lived and worked in Düsseldorf since the early 1990s. During her studies at the Bath Academy of Art (1983–1987), as well as at Central Saint Martins School of Art and the Slade School of Art in London (1988–1991), Waters developed the characteristic interplay between photographic effects and painterly possibilities that continues to define her artistic practice today.
