Kaufman Field Guide to Mammals of North America (12th Edition) by Kenn Kaufman

Now with a new lower price and a new ISBN, the Kaufman Field Guide to Mammals invites nature lovers to discover North America's wild animals

This comprehensive guide treats every species of wild mammal found north of the Mexican border, from squirrels and chipmunks to grizzly bears and jaguars as well as those in offshore waters. More than 1,200 photographs have been digitally edited to show correct sizes, comparative colors, and the field marks necessary for identification in the wild.

With each title in the distinguished Kaufman Field Guide series, Kenn Kaufman engages and educates naturalists of all ages and skill levels about the wonders of nature. In Mammals of North America, the format has been designed for easy field use, with illustrations, maps, and text arranged side by side. Detailed range maps show where each species is common or rare. The authoritative text discusses the identification of these animals and the essential facts about their habitats and behavior. Hundreds of illustrations show tracks, dens, and other signs that we may notice even when the animals themselves are out of sight.

Rick Bowers served as a reporter and editor for the Patriot Ledger in Quincy, Massachusetts, the Miami Herald, and USA Today for more than 15 years. Many of the country's most famous magazines, including the Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Philadelphia Inquirer, and TIME, have featured his work. Bowers has conceived and directed unique multimedia projects for the past ten years, conveying strong, socially relevant stories across print, the web, television, radio, music, and drama. He directed Voices of Civil Rights, a multimedia project that gathered thousands of first-hand recollections of the Civil Rights Movement to establish the world's biggest archive of testimony from the era, in collaboration with AARP, the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights, and the Library of Congress. A History Channel documentary received both an Emmy and a Peabody Award as part of the project.

The website was honored with a Webby Award. Bowers works with AARP as the Director of Creative Initiatives, where he continues to design innovative multimedia programs. With his wife and two daughters, he lives in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, D.C.
