The Kindness of Strangers by Kate Adie
Kate Adie has reported from many of the world's trouble spots since she joined the BBC in 1969. This autobiography covers her experiences in Northern Ireland, the Middle East, Tiananmen Square and the Gulf War of 1991, revealing her extraordinarily demanding life at the heart of the action.
Adie has reinvented herself as a writer with such a delightful, light touch, such an unexpected eye for the absurd, that her memoir at times bears comparison with Evelyn Waugh..delicious vignettes. Adie shows a striking ability to convey in a few pages an era, a war or a country.
