In 1995, Cuba's President Fidel Castro visited the South Bronx. Never has a visit by a foreign dignitary caused such a stir in a community that rarely received anything but negative news coverage. Although Castro's visit was widely covered by the traditional corporate media, few people know the story behind his visit. This book tells how an idea on how a respond to a mayor's insult resulted in the most famous visit of a Latin American leader to the heart of a Latino community in the United States that was undergoing its own revolution. Over the years, I have shared anecdotes about that dinner in gatherings with family and friends. Almost every time I told a bit of the story of Fidel's visit, people would tell me that I should write about it.
