Koi Appreciation by Kate Mcgill
This is a detailed look at the appreciation and classification of Nishikigoi (koi or brocaded carp). It explains how to look at koi and appreciate the intricate meld of colour and form that gives every fish its individuality and charm. Topics covered include: basic information about classification and appreciation of the 13 varieties of koi; lists of the koi within a variety for "show" purposes; and an explanation of Japanese terms used to identify a variety's features.
Kate and Andrew McGill started keeping koi in 1977. In 1990, after BKKS Judges Training programme, Kate became the second woman in the UK to have achieved full show-judge status. She was elected Chairman in 2000. Kate has also given many talks on koi appreciation and from this lead to her husband Andrew's keen interest in koi photography. His slide collection includes some 2,000 images. Resident - Bishop Auckland, Durham
