He is a trained teacher in the Sanbo Kyodan lineage of Japanese Buddhism and was the Besl Professor of Ethics/Religion and Society at Xavier University in Cincinnati. His essays have appeared in a range of scholarly periodicals as well as significant journals including Tikkun and Buddhist magazines like Tricycle, Turning Wheel, Shambhala Sun, and Buddhadharma.
