Through Deeside, Donside, Strathavon and beyond, Bob Smith searches out the deserted and forgotten villages and clachans which lay throughout the area and whose rich history is now often simply commemorated by anonymous ruins set deep in remote glens. First published in 1997, Land of the Lost was an instant success. This new edition has been expanded by almost half to incorporate chapters on the glens south of Strathdon, the area around Belnagauld and the Bunzeach, Mulloch Hill, the track known as the Pollach Road, the fermtouns around Monymusk, and the area around Foudland. It also includes numerous rare archive photographs.Robert Smith began his journalistic career as a copy boy at the age of fifteen, and would go on to be the longest-serving editor of the "Evening Express" in Aberdeen. On retiring he became a prolific author of local history and walks in the North-East of Scotland. Robert died in 2008 at the age of eighty-four.
