A Little Way of Homeschooling by Suzie Andres

Suzie Andres and twelve other Catholic homeschoolers describe how they implement an unschooling style of teaching in their homes. Drawing from St. Therese, St. John Bosco, John Holt (How Children Learn and How Children Fail), and ancient philosophers, the families paint a picture of authentic education without the constraints and pitfalls of typical modern education. Andres admirably addresses the question of whether a Catholic can happily and sanely unschool by explaining it as a sensible approach to the mystery of learning, not as an ideology in competition with her faith. The heart of the book is the honest and humble description of home education by twelve homeschooling mothers who have embraced unschooling in varying degrees. Anyone interested in education and particularly home education will be inspired by their narratives.

Suzie Andres is a Catholic woman and mother who lives in sunny Southern California and writes about it. She and her husband, Tony, were Discalced Carmelite Seculars who drew strength from St. Francis' charism and theology. Teresa of Avila, St. Teresa of Avila, St. Teresa of Avila, St. Saint. John the Evangelist and St. Thérèse of Lisieux has been my patron saint for nearly two decades.

Suzie's earlier publications include Homeschooling with Gentleness and A Small Way of Homeschooling (the latter of which includes writings by a dozen other Catholic wives and moms); The Paradise Project (a novel based on Pride and Prejudice, but set in a modern-day Catholic setting); and Collected Sermons of Thomas Aquinas McG. Suzie finds her most effective education at the school of the two Little Flowers, St. McArthur, after earning degrees at Thomas Aquinas College and the University of Notre Dame. Thérèse and Servant of God Marcel Van, her spiritual younger brother. Miss Marcel's Musings (suzieandres.com/blog) is where the three of them may be found online.

Suzie's devotional Stations of the Cross with Our Sister St. Joseph, published under the imprint Little Way Books, is also now available. Thérèse Thérèse Thérèse Thérèse Thérès
