The East End of London, bounded by the river Lea in the East and by the walls of the city in the west, has, throughout its long history, seen a variety of people and many ways of life. Jane Cox is former Principal Assistant Keeper of Public Records at the National Archives. Since 1989 she has been an author and genealogical researcher. Jane is the author of numerous books, guidebooks, and articles for a range of publishers. For five years she was chairman of the Stepney Historical Trust. Her family has lived in the East End since the seventeenth century.
