The Lost Messiah by John Freely
This is the story of Sabbatai Sevi, who in the 17th century convinced multitudes of Jews that he was the Messiah but then disppointed them when he embraced Islam on the threat of execution. More than three centuries after his death the mystic Jewish tradition known as the Kabbalah is still alive.
'Everything I believe in has come from the Kabbalah' - Roseanne Barr
