Making Movies by Alan Parker

For 20 years Alan Parker has been one of Britain's most successful film directors. He has been at the helm of movies that have courted critical acclaim ("Shoot the Moon", "Birdy"), popular success ("The Commitments", "Angel Heart"), and political controversy ("Midnight Express", "Mississippi Burning") in equal measure. He has solicited performances of distinction from established stars such as Gene Hackman, Mickey Rourke and Madonna, and ensemble casts of largely unknown performers in "Fame" and "The Commitments". He also draws cartoons. For almost as long as Parker has been directing films, his cartoons have appeared in industry newspapers such as "Screen International" and "Variety". Stars, studio heads and colleagues - David Putnam is a regular target - all come under Parker's merciless gaze as he works out the frustrations of being a professoinal film-maker with acid wit. This volume contains a collection of Parkers cartoons.
Alan Parker is a freelance journalist who contributes to a number of periodicals including Mojo and Record Collector, and author of Vicious: Too Fast to Live: The Authorized Biography of Sid Vicious (Creation, 2003), as well as: Sex Pistols: Satellite (Abstract Sounds, 2002), John Lennon: The FBI Files (With Phil Strongman) (Sanctuary, 2003), and Stiff Little Fingers Song By Song (With Jake Burns) (Sanctuary, 2003).
