The Man Who Fought Alone by Stephen R Donaldson
Standard accounts of canon reduce it to scripture and treat scripture as a criterion of truth. Scripture is then related in positive or negative ways to tradition, reason, and experience. Such projects mistakenly locate the canonical heritage of the church within epistemology, and Abraham charts the fatal consequences of this move, from the Fathers to modern feminist theology.
Stephen Donaldson is the author of the six volumes of the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, a landmark in modern fantasy. Every volume, beginning with Lord Foul's Bane in 1977, has been an international bestseller. Donaldson returned to the series with Runes of the Earth in 2004, followed by Fatal Revenant, and Against All Things Ending. The Last Dark, the final book in the series, will be published by Putnam in September 2013. He lives in New Mexico.
