She studied French and Spanish literature at the University of Arizona for her undergraduate and graduate studies. She went on to Cornell University for her PhD studies and is still All But Dissertation in French literature. She worked for 12 years as a French teacher and 30 years as a Spanish teacher. She was a faculty fellow at the Language House in Spanish for several years and co-directed the Cornell-Michigan-Penn Program in Seville for the school year 1998-1999. Since the fall of 2000, Dozier has also served as associate chair for Language Teaching in the Department of Romance Studies.
