Marvel Masterworks: Dazzler Vol. 4 by Archie Goodwin
Dazzler, that's a wrap! The icon of the '80s finishes her tour with the Marvel Masterworks, and her original series, in this volume. Dazzler took her last solo bow in 1986; when Madonna was notching #1 singles, she was getting chased through the sewers by super villains. Being the hardest working mutant in show business isn't as glamorous as you'd think! And with a prejudiced world now fully aware of her mutant status, Dazzler's singing career is at a standstill. She desperately tries to find her place, as she faces the cosmic Beyonder, battles her future X-Men teammates, romances the Beast and tries her hand at... roller derby?!? Hey, it was the '80s! Featuring early work from indie legend Paul Chadwick! Collecting: Dazzler (1981) 35-42, Beauty and the Beast (1984) 1-4, Secret Wars II (1985) 4, material from Marvel Fanfare (1982) 38
Archie Goodwin was born in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1937. In 1964, he went to work for Warren Publishing, where he became the head scriptwriter and eventually rose to the position of Editor-in-Chief. From the late 1960s until the late 1980s Goodwin moved back and forth between Marvel, DC Comics, and Warren, with occasional sojourns elsewhere. He helmed the launch of Epic Illustrated and was the Editor-in-Chief at Marvel from 1976 until 1978. He was inducted into the Eisner Hall of Fame in 1998. Gil Kane (1926-2000) is considered of the best comic book artists of the Silver Age and beyond, having won four awards from the National Cartoonists Society--including Best Story Strip for Star Hawks. During his long career, he is best known for his work on Green Lantern and The Atom for DC Comics, and then a long stint at Marvel, drawing the Amazing Spider-Man and hundreds of covers in the 1970s.
