Mat Irvine is best known for his work as a Technical Consultant and Visual Effects Designer on television from the 1970s through the 1990s, especially for the BBC. Irvine worked as a Technical Consultant on shows like The Sky at Night, Tomorrow's World, and the original Robot Wars series. Irvine worked on series like Rentaghost, Terry and June, Blake's 7, The Tripods, Edge of Darkness, and To the Manor Born as a Visual Effects Designer. He is possibly best recognized for his work as a Visual Effects Designer on Doctor Who from the 1970s to the 1980s. He is credited with creating the show's first K-9 prop.
He still makes appearances at science fiction and Doctor Who events, typically with K-9, which he still controls. He also organizes and hosts model showcases on a regular basis.
