Murder Most Antique by E C Bateman
A fascinating history of how the unfolding drama of each election from 1900 to 2024 has shaped the Labour Party and modern Britain. This is an essential guide to how left-wing politics succeeds or fails through an accessible, highly readable and timely history of Labour's performance in the 34 British General Elections since 1900. There have been 8 hung parliaments resulting in coalitions. Labour has won power 12 times; the Conservatives outright on 14 occasions. The final chapter of the book analyses the landslide result of the General Election on 4th July 2024. With exclusive insights from former leaders and Prime Ministers - including Gordon Brown and Neil Kinnock - HOW LABOUR WINS provides a vital guide to British politics today by delving deep into the secrets of long-forgotten campaigns, tracing the Party's roots, examining the strategies, leaders, transformative moments and missteps which have defined Labour at the ballot box and shaped modern Britain. You might also like
‘A fun read that kept me reading through to the end … certainly held my attention with a group of interesting characters, any one of which might have been a multiple murderer’ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
‘The action at an auction is truly inspired…I don't live too far from Stamford and I love the idea that its sleepy yet glorious appearance hides some nefarious goings on’ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
‘Love how punchy the start of this is…up there in terms of close knit communities, tension and surprises aplenty’ ⭐⭐⭐⭐
E. C. Bateman is a novelist and antique jewellery specialist. Having made the questionable decision to marry an auctioneer, she moved to Stamford and dreamt up the idea for this series whilst living in a converted Georgian flat overlooking St. Mary’s Church in the heart of town. They’ve since decamped to the surrounding countryside with their baby daughter, but can still be spotted around the cobbled streets on a regular basis, usually being dragged along by their effervescent cocker spaniel, Audrey.
