Music for Elementary Classroom Teachers by Patricia Shehan Campbell

Learn how to use the power of music to enhance other subjects. Written for both elementary education majors and K-6 classroom teachers, the text is rooted in cognitive research on children's development. The book offers myriad instructional plans that weave songs, dances, and carefully constructed listening experiences into subjects ranging from language arts and social studies to mathematics, science, and the arts. It also provides opportunities for engaging children in expressive-creative practices.
Patricia Shehan Campbell is a specialist in music in early and middle childhood, world music pedagogy, sociology of music, and music and movement. A world-renowned scholar, she has written or co-authored many books on music education, including Musician and Teacher, Music in Childhood, Teaching Music Globally, Songs in Their Heads, and Lessons from the World. Carol Scott-Kassner is a writer, consultant, and former professor of music education. An expert in the musical growth of young children, she has written and spoken extensively on that topic. She was cofounder and chair of the Early Childhood Commission of the International Society of Music Education and chaired both the Society for Research in Music Education and the Society for General Music in MENC. Kirk Kassner is a writer, lecturer, and consultant in music education. His forty-year career included teaching music in public schools at all age levels and as an adjunct instructor at Portland State University and the University of Central Florida. He has served the profession in many capacities—including as member of the Editorial Committee for the Music Educators Journal—and has written many articles for MEJ and other journals, contributed to several MENC publications and Silver Burdett textbooks, and lectured across the United States and in Great Britain, Italy, Greece, China, and Brazil.
