
Michael Cart is a nationally renowned authority in YA fiction, as well as a writer, presenter, consultant, and lecturer. He is the author or editor of twenty books, including the LGBT coming-of-age novel My Father's Scar, which was named an ALA Best Book for Young Adults; From Romance to Realism: 50 Years of Growth and Development; and Carte Blanche, which publishes monthly in Booklist magazine. He is the former director of the Beverly Hills (California) Public Library and a previous president of the Young Adult Library Services Association. Jenkins' The Heart Has Its Reasons is a critical history of gay/lesbian/queer material in young adult literature. Love and Sex: Ten True Tales, Necessary Noise: True Stories About Our Families, and How Beautiful the Ordinary: Twelve Stories of Identity are among his many anthologies. In 2008, he was the inaugural recipient of the YALSA/Greenwood Publishing Group Service to Young Adults Achievement Prize, and in 2000, he received the Grolier Foundation Award for his commitment to the stimulation of young adults. Cart is a resident of Columbus, Indiana.
