Neoclassicism by Hugh Honour

English summary: Neo-classicism is often misunderstood as a cold, pedantic, even bombastic artistic movement. The present volume seeks to rehabilitate Neo-classicism, explaining its esthetic, philosophical, and political implications, through the example of both famous and little-known artists from across Europe.
John Fleming was a British art historian known for his writing partnership with Hugh Honour. His book, Robert Adam and His Circle in Edinburgh and Rome, won the Bannister Fletcher Prize and the Alice Davis Hitchcock Medal. He lived with Honour in Italy for most of his life, and died in 2001.

Hugh Honour was a British art historian. He was elected in 1972 as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature due to his fruitful career as a writer, often working with his life partner, John Fleming. He died in 2016.

Sir Nikolaus Pevsner was a German and British scholar of the history of architecture. A dedicated cataloger of the architecture of Britain, he was a founding member of the Victorian Society and a fellow of the British Academy, as well as the recipient of a CBE and a knighthood. He died in 1983.
