The Noisy Classroom by Ieva Flamingo

It isn't easy being a kid, especially in the noisiest class in the school. Some days, you struggle with algebra, or too much homework. Sometimes, one of your fellow pupils just won't SHUT UP. And sometimes, the hardest thing is just trying to fit in. When the class feels like a many-headed dragon, how can you find a place for yourself? Would you feel less lonely if you could smuggle a cat in? And when your parents are fighting, don't you find yourself looking into other people's windows on the walk back home? Ieva Flamingo's children’s poems capture the emotional highs and lows of childhood with a sharp, surreal eye and a touching sympathy. The Noisy Classroom is a friend of a book: the poems here understand the pressures faced by children, but they also take in stressed parents, overworked teachers who dream of holidays in Iceland, and the fairies who clean the school at the end of the day. Not to mention the headmaster: after all, he was young once too... The Noisy Classroom contains 40 poems and features bonus materials, including interviews with the author and the illustrator, and ideas for writing your own poems.

The Noisy Classroom is an evocative, thought-provoking collection of illustrated poems featuring a range of situations, objects and emotions both in the school environment and outside it

This book of poems is very interesting for me, Ieva Flamingo writes about so many subjects. It helps me with my language and to learn new words and information. Some pieces are funny and some are serious and moving.

Ieva Flamingo is sensitive about people and relationships and also cares about the natural world. Her poetry helps us to see that computers and mobile phones aren’t the most important things in life, you need nature and friendship too.

I can’t speak Latvian so I am happy these poems have been translated otherwise I wouldn’t have known about them. My first languages are Greek and Albanian so I know how important it is to be able to translate good writing into a language people can understand.

I like writing my own poems and I write about people, and the world and what interests me just like Ieva Flamingo does. At the back of this book are suggestions for creating your own poems. I think I will try some.
