The Oasis by Pauline Gedge
After their failed attempt at rebellion, King Apepa of the Setiu passes judgement on the surviving Tao family. Threatened with separation and slavery, denied their lands, homes and each other the Taos are forced to make the decision to continue the fight against the Setiu usurpers. In desperation Prince Kamose Tao continues the campaign that his father started and sweeps north gathering the men of Egypt to his banner as he goes. As the Tao men continue the struggle on the battlefield, the Tao women begin to show their strength in politics and espionage. Kamose carves a bloody trail through the Egyptian desert intent on the eradication of the foreign usurpers and comes ever closer to his goal of freedom but also ever closer to losing his sanity.
