Comprehensive view of this magnificent instrument - an enjoyable read
Léon Goossens was born in Liverpool into a highly-talented musical family. He played under Henry Wood and was taken on by Sir Thomas Beecham for the newly founded London Symphony Orchestra. He was widely regarded as one of the foremost oboists in the world, bringing together the best of both the French and the German styles of playing. Edwin Roxburgh studied oboe and composition at the Royal College of Music. He was appointed pincipal oboist at the Sadler's Wells Opera and teaches composition and conducting at the RCM.
