Of Craft and Honour by George Gregory Buttigieg
Revolves around the disaster affecting the author's father - Professor Henry Tonna Black, a respected professor of Law and a publicly self-declared member of a free and accepted Masonic lodge. However, one of the members in his lodge has turned his freemasonic knowledge and contacts into ideals far different from those of the honourable professor.
GEORGE GREGORY BUTTIGIEG is a 53 year old consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at St Luke's Hospital in Malta and a Senior Lecturer in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Malta. He is married to Annabelle Bonnici and has two daughters Nicola Ann, a family doctor - and Gaby, who is in her final year of law studies. The author is, himself, a Knight Hospitaller or as is nowadays known, a member of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, and is also the Director of the Blood Bank run by the Order in Malta. He is intensely interested in the history of the medieval military orders, especially the Templars and the Hospitallers, and has published and lectured extensively on the subject. In delving in the history of the Templars he developed a purely armchair and academic interest in Freemasonry, which he still researches, and which inspired the present novel. George G Buttigieg is also the Republic of Malta's Ambassador to the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, the seat of Government of which is located in Rome. Although this is the author's first novel in English, he has published both poetry and numerous short stories in English and Maltese. His second novel - medieval, Templar oriented and with Maltese connections - is well on its way to seeing the light of day.
