Oldham County: Life at the River's Edge (American Chronicles) by Nancy Theiss

Like many counties along the Mason-Dixon line, Oldham County was an area of divided loyalties: an important corridor for slave trafficking as well as part of the Underground Railroad for slaves who chose to run away. It was also a gateway for pioneers as they moved westward to a new frontier. Through the efforts of the Oldham County Historical Society, the stories and tales of this rich history have been preserved through court documents, old newspapers and other artifacts. Join local historian and columnist Dr. Nancy Stearns Theiss as she describes the muddy waters of the county's beginnings, through turbulent times and along the currents of progress.
Theiss, Nancy Stearns: - Nancy Stearns Theiss is a native of Oldham County, where she grew up on the family farm and married her childhood sweetheart. She has degrees in education, biology and environmental studies and has directed several nonprofits. Currently the executive director of the Oldham County Historical Society, she has written history columns for the Louisville Courier-Journal and the Oldham Era and received numerous recognitions for her various endeavors. She is an avid naturalist and historian who believes that knowing your community and the people, places and living things (past and present) around you helps you understand your place in the world.
