On the Emotions by Richard Wollheim
An account of the emotions, using insights from literature, psychoanalysis and philosophy. Starting from the premise that emotions form a distinct psychological category, Wollheim argues that they are dispositions or underlying forces in the mind that erupt into consciousness from time to time.
Richard Arthur Wollheim was a British philosopher noted for original work on mind and emotions, especially as related to the visual arts, specifically, painting. Wollheim served as the president of the British Society of Aesthetics from 1992 onwards until his death in 2003.
