When Diana and Maud return home from working in the Cardiff Royal Infirmary, life in the Welsh valleys seems tougher than ever. In the Depression, money is scarce and jobs hard to find. Catrin Collier was born and brought up in Pontypridd. She worked for a while in Europe and America before returning to her native Wales.
