Peter Burchard (1921-2004) was the author of more than twenty books for children and adults, including One Gallant Rush: Robert Gould Shaw and His Heroic Black Regiment, which served as a key historical source for the Academy Award-winning film Glory. The American Library Association named two of his books as significant books. The New York Times lauded him, praising his ability to employ historical fact and identifying him as having a superb characterization talent. He was a Williamstown, Massachusetts resident.
