Other People's Trades by Primo Levi
The essays in this book include some of the subjects that fascinated Primo Levi - the house he lived in all his life, butterflies and spiders, imaginary creatures dreamed up by children, Rabelais, writing a novel, returning to school at 60 and the need for fear.
One of the most interesting books I have ever read - by a great and good writer OBSERVER There is no contestThe noblest book of the year Anita Brookner, SPECTATOR There is nothing heavy or preachy about these delightful essays, but taken together they add up to a memorable portrait of what a human being is or ought to be SUNDAY TELEGRAPH A book to return to in the anticipation of pleasure of a bracing intellectual kind TLS
Primo Levi was born in Turin in 1919. After his return to Italy after the war, he continued to work as a chemist until his retirement in 1975. He died in 1987.
