Out of the Ashes by David Lammy

David Lammy MP predicted the riots of 2011 a year before they took place. In this book, he analyses the causes of the disturbances and their implications for the future. It seeks to explain why the breakdown of law and order was so swift and so widespread, and offers a way forward for Britain that is both practical and inspirational.
DAVID LAMMY was born in Tottenham in 1972, one of five children raised by a single mother. At the age of 11 he won a choral scholarship to The King's School in Peterborough and subsequently read Law at SOAS and the Harvard Law School, where he was the first black Briton to study for a Masters degree in Law. In 2000 he became Labour MP for Tottenham, before serving in the Blair and Brown governments. He has written on numerous occasions for national publications, including the Guardian, The Times, New Statesman and Spectator. He predicted social unrest on a number of occasions before the riots broke out and spoke passionately for his constituents in the wake of the riots.
