Marcus Dods (April 11, 1834 – April 26, 1909) was a divine and biblical scholar from Scotland. He was a Free Church of Scotland priest from 1843 to 1900. He spent much of his life, both as a clergyman and as a professor, devoted to the writing of theological books. Several of his writings, particularly a sermon on Inspiration delivered in 1878, drew charges of heresy, and he was summoned before the General Assembly of the Free Church of Scotland just before his election to the Edinburgh professorship, but the allegation was dismissed by a strong majority, and he earned the honorary degree of DD from Edinburgh University in 1891. He edited Johann Peter Lange's Life of Christ in English (Edinburgh, 1864, 6 vols. ), Augustine's works (1872-1876), and Clark's Handbooks for Biblical Courses series, which he co-edited with Alexander Whyte.
He edited Genesis and 1 Corinthians for the Expositors Bible series, and he also contributed to the 9th edition of the Encyclopaedia Britannica and Hastings' Dictionary of the Bible. Spiritual Development, Christian Education, Christian Sermons, and Bible Study are all aspects of the Christian life.
