The Past Recaptured by Mary Joyce Baxter
This autobiography describes the difficulties Mary Joyce Baxter experienced in being accepted for nursing training and the obstacles that had to be overcome to achieve her ambition.
This is one of the best nurse autobiographies I have readMary Joyce Baxter brings her wide-ranging career to life in a book that deserves to become a classic. It is well written and thrilling as a novel, with great stories and attention to detail. -- Laurence Dopson Nursing Standard magazine
After the end of World War Two, Mary Joyce Baxter left her home in the Midlands to train as a nurse. Training as a nurse led to work as a midwife in Birmingham and later in the Army as a QARANC Nursing Sister. When abroad, she met the man she later married. Her main interest was in midwifery and child care which she eventually found as a Health Visitor in a busy Northern town. Now retired, she spends time in writing and runs a small Creative Writing Group in Lancashire.
