His studies focus on the history of the modern Arab states and the Arab-Israeli conflict in the first half of the 20th century. He has published five books and more than 40 professional articles in leading academic journals. His books include: Aziz Bek: Intelligence and Espionage in Lebanon, Syria, and Palestine during the World War (1991), The Emergence of the Arab Movements (1993), The Arab Movements in World War I (1993), Secret Societies and Resistance Movements in the Fertile Crescent, 1875-1920 (1994), and The Formation of Modern Syria and Iraq (1995).
